Frequently asked Questions

Accredited Exercise Physiologists (AEP) are required continuously to meet rigorous standards and regulations set by Exercise Sports Science Australia (ESSA). This qualification sets them among the highest qualified professionals for exercise prescription in Australia. This qualifies AEPs to work with clinical populations.

AEPs provide up to date and evidence based practices to safely and effectively provide highly relevant exercise prescription and delivery to suit you.

A Personal Trainer requires a Certificate 4 in Fitness, which may take as little as 6 weeks to complete. On a certificate level, a PT should understand basic movements as well as a basic knowledge of exercise prescription and delivery that is only suitable for healthy populations.

At a minimum, a graduate AEP must complete a four year or equivalent university degree with an additional 360 hours of clinical placement. This provides them with a deep knowledge of training and physiology that enables them to educate and provide safe and impactful exercise interventions for clinical populations.

Physiotherapists generally specialise in diagnosis, manual therapy and management of acute (short term) injuries.

An Exercise Physiotherapist generally specialises in prevention or management of chronic (long term) diseases, musculoskeletal injuries, weight management and disabilities through exercise prescription and delivery.

While each have different areas of expertise, the two professions are not mutually exclusive and work complimentary to each other for the best outcomes for their clients.

Both self and plan managed recipients of the NDIS are able to utilise their funding.

Currently, Riggs Physiology is not a NDIS registered provider. If NDIA managed, please reach out to discuss further about suitable funding options for you.

Exercise treatments have been shown to improve both chronic medical conditions, injuries and disabilities.

Some chronic health issues can be reversed with appropriate interventions such as (non insulin dependent) Type 2 Diabetes. Other conditions cannot be reversed but can be managed with exercise.

For example, exercise treatments could provide management for chronic pain that improves your functional capacity. Improved muscle function and strength could improve your independence and confidence.

You are unique and you come with your own set of needs and goals that should be catered to accordingly
